Using Quick Filters in Issue List

We are excited to announce a new feature in the Custom Charts Issue List gadget for Jira, Quick Filters!

What are Quick Filters?

Quick Filters are filters that can be built out directly in the Issue List gadget. Users can add pre-existing Jira filters to the gadget, or, write their own JQL directly in the gadget to create a Quick Filter on the spot. Dashboard viewers can then use the filters to drill down the Jira data displayed in the gadget.

How do they help my team?

With this new feature, users will be able to create filters within the Issue List gadget directly. It saves users time and makes the Issue List gadget more powerful. Users viewing the dashboard also have quick access to filtering the Issue List gadget and visualizing the specific Jira data they need to see.

Steps to Configure Quick Filters in Issue List

  1. Add the Issue List gadget to your Dashboard

  2. Configure the gadget to display the desired Jira data on the list

  3. On the right side of the gadget, click the Quick filters tab

    1. If you want to add an existing Jira filter as a Quick Filter, click + Add saved filter toggle, then select the specific filter from the dropdown. All Jira filters the user has access to will be available in the dropdown

    2. If you want to build a new Quick Filter directly in the gadget, click + Add custom JQL toggle, then select the specific filter from the dropdown

  4. Once you’ve added your Quick Filters, click Save at the bottom right of the gadget

PRO TIP Once you begin adding your Quick Filters, you can use the Live Preview of the gadget on the left side to get a feel for what your updates look like before you save the gadget to the Dashboard

Steps to Use Quick Filters as a Dashboard Viewer

  1. Navigate to the Dashboard and find the Issue List Gadget

  2. Click on the specific Quick Filter. The list will update to show the Jira data that meets the Quick Filter criteria (i.e. for High Priority Issues Due this Month, the list will only show Jira issues with priority “High” that have a Due date some time in the current month)

    1. Users will know the Quick Filter is applied once it turns purple

Applying Multiple Quick Filters

If you’ve configured the Issue List gadget to include multiple Quick Filters, you can apply them all to the Jira data at the same time, creating a longer JQL statement. In the example below, 3 Quick Filters are applied on the Issue List gadget. The JQL statement ultimately becomes: “status=Escalated and priority=High and due < endOfMonth()”.

Clearing Quick Filters

Once a Quick Filter has been applied to the Issue List Jira data, it can easily be cleared. Simply click the Quick Filter again. Once it turns grey, the full list of Jira data will appear, and the filter is no longer applied to the data.
